Waterproofing, Repair & Maintenance

Shower waterproofing built as a continuous system, not just a coat of paint

Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own. A membrane behind them is what keeps water out of your walls and floor.

Shower Waterproofing

Water gets through grout, and it gets behind tile. What stops it is the waterproofing layer under the finish: a sheet or liquid-applied membrane that covers the floor and walls, with corners, seams, valve penetrations and niches sealed. When any of these details is skipped, leaks appear, often unseen behind walls until damage is serious.

We install waterproofing as a complete system, following the manufacturer's requirements, and we flood test the pan before tile. Across Nashville and Middle Tennessee we also retrofit and repair failing waterproofing during remodels, so the new shower does not repeat an old problem.

FAQ

Common questions about shower waterproofing

Is cement board waterproof?

Cement board resists water damage, but it is not a waterproof layer on its own. A membrane is needed.

Can waterproofing be added after tile?

Not in the same way. If a shower leaks, the tile generally needs to come out so the system can be rebuilt.

Why flood test?

It confirms the pan holds water before the finishes cover it.
