Curbless & Zero-Threshold Showers

A curbless shower has no raised edge. The bathroom floor flows into the shower and slopes to the drain, which makes the room look bigger and makes the shower easy to enter for anyone, including people who use walkers or wheelchairs. It also suits owners who simply like the clean, modern look.

The work is more involved than a standard shower because the floor structure has to be lowered or the pan built into the subfloor, and the waterproofing has to be carefully planned. We assess the framing, the drain location and the slope before we propose a layout across Nashville and Middle Tennessee homes, so water goes to the drain and stays off the bathroom floor.

What you get

Done right, from the first walk-through

01

Recessed floor framing

The subfloor is adjusted so the shower floor sits flush with the room.

02

Sloped, waterproofed base

A continuous membrane and a floor sloped toward the drain.

03

Linear or center drain

A drain style chosen for the layout and the tile size.

04

Glass and splash control

Panels placed to keep water in the shower area.

The process

How your service comes together

  1. 1

    Inspect the structure

We check joists, plumbing and drain locations to confirm a curbless layout will work.

  2. 2

    Build the pan

The floor is lowered as needed and the pan is built with a continuous waterproof layer.

  3. 3

    Tile and test

Tile is set to the slope and the system is tested before the glass is installed.

FAQ

Common questions about curbless showers

Can any bathroom get a curbless shower?

Most can, but framing and plumbing matter. A quick look at the floor structure tells us what is possible.

Will water escape the shower?

A well-planned slope, drain and glass layout keep water in. We design for the way you shower.

Is a curbless shower harder to build?

It takes more planning and care, which is why we inspect the structure first.
